A Word From The Rabbi

Rabbi Steven C. Wernick
Rabbi Steven Wernick comes to the rabbinate through a lifetime in the Conservative movement: the son of a rabbi, a Ramah camper, a USY veteran, a student of Jewish history and contemporary Judaic practice. Rabbi Wernick earned degrees in Ancient Near Eastern Studies (University of Minnesota), Hebrew Letters (University of Judaism, Los Angeles) and Jewish Education in preparation for ordination from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.

Rabbi Wernick believes that while an educational background and rabbinic experience are important parts of a rabbi's professional biography, it is personal connections that are the essence of the rabbinate. Currently in his sixth year at Adath Israel, the congregation agrees. Under Rabbi Wernick's leadership, membership and congregant involvement in all aspects of synagogue life have increased greatly.

Commitment to the greater Jewish community is also an important value to Rabbi Wernick. He is presently the President of the Rabbinical Assembly Mid Atlantic Region, past Chairperson of the Rabbi Morris Goodblatt Academy for Conversion of the RA and immediate past Chairperson of the Kehillah Lower Merion.

Rabbi Wernick lives in Bala Cynwyd with his wife Jody and three daughters.
