Music

We are very proud of the strength of our music and theater program at Adath Israel. Over the years, it has taken many forms, from the Adult and Children’s choirs to our synagogue-wide theatricals. But there is always one constant... if you want to sing or act, there is a place for you!

The Children's Choir under the direction of Amy Jo Rosenthal, offers students in our Religious School the opportunity to learn Hebrew and Yiddish music and perform at various occasions throughout the year. The Children's Choir often sings with the Adult Choir at holidays and other special occasions.

Under the direction of Cantor Bernard Lowe, the Adath Israel Singers - our Adult Choir - performs a wide selection of Jewish music, including songs in Yiddish and Hebrew, secular and liturgical compositions. The Choir comes together to lead the congregational singing on the first Shabbat of each month, the Friday Night Alive services, as well as on Shabbat Shirah, Selichot, High Holy Days and other occasions such as the always popular Purimspiel. The Choir welcomes new members to come and experience the warmth and camaraderie of singing together.

Theater

The Adath Israel Players is a group of congregants who stage fully- realized theatrical productions, such as Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance, Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Members of all ages are involved as performers, stage crew, publicists, costume/set designers and chorus members. Accompanied by professional musicians, these productions have attracted the attention of the local press and draw audiences from throughout the Main Line. But we are most proud of our policy that that ensures that no one is ever turned away - there's a "role" for everyone.
