Shir Joy

Music and Prayer at Adath Israel

SPECIAL NOTICE

The Adath Israel Shir Joy Committee had the pleasure of welcoming Cantor Elizabeth Shammash to our community for a very special Shabbat experience on Friday and Saturday, January 3 and 4, 2020.

Cantor Elizabeth Shammash

This past year, we have had the pleasure of working with Artist-in-Residence Rabbi Ariel Wolpe, who led High Holiday services as well as various Shabbat and chag celebrations during this year. Since Rabbi Wolpe's commitment was just one year, we have, as promised, kept our ears to the ground, following up on various leads as they have come our way.

Cantor Shammash is the Cantor at Tiferet Beth Israel in Blue Bell and a member of "Divas on the Bimah," a group of four female cantors who travel and perform around the country. She is also well known for bringing musicians together to create exceptional musical experiences.

Please click here to view the Cantor's resumeand click here or here to hear samples of the Cantor's variety of work.

We were very pleased to have the opportunity to bring Cantor Shammash to our community for Shabbat. Please see below for last weekend's schedule of events.

Friday, January 3, 2020 at 6:00 PM

We enjoyed Kabbalat Shabbat/maariv services with Cantor Shammash and accompanists Cantor Leon Sher, guitar and Gaston Bernstein, percussion.

This service with guitar and percussion is both soulful and uplifting, inspiring us to raise our voices together in song-filled community.

It is good to start the year with something familiar and something new - some melodies will be brand new to us, allowing for learning and growth, along with some we know, trust and love.

Shabbat, January 4, 2020 at 9:15 AM

Cantor Shammash joined us for Shabbat morning services. We had a meet and greet with the Cantor during our Kiddush lunch as well as a question and answer session following Kiddush.
