About the Author
Ethan Daniel Davidson is an author, musician, and philanthropist. He has written two books, recorded 15 albums, and toured across North America and Europe. In 2005, he returned to Detroit to help lead the William Davidson Foundation, established by his late father, Bill Davidson. The foundation supports economic, cultural, and civic vitality in Southeast Michigan, Israel, and the global Jewish community.

About the Book
And They Arose Early To Do Sexual Violence reflects on the Torah through the lens of personal experience and the events of October 7, 2023. Davidson explores the parallels between ancient narratives and modern struggles with violence, asking whether our responses are just or excessive.
Drawing on the layered meanings of Hebrew, Davidson uses the Torah as a mirror to process emotions and explore accountability. Written in a distinctive “broken poetry of Torah” style—each line a single breath—the book invites readers into a deep, personal engagement with the text.
A powerful meditation on violence, morality, and empathy, this book offers a transformative reading experience for those seeking insight and healing.
